You probably already know this but, summer is the most popular time of the year to move. Moving is hard work at the best of times, so during summer with the heat it can be especially challenging. These simple tips will assist you when preparing for your next move.

Plan

Because summer is the busiest moving time of the year, planning in advance is absolutely necessary. The best moving companies have schedules that fill quickly so you don’t want to miss out on having the extra assistance from a team you trust. You should always start looking for a moving company at least 6-8 weeks in advance. To make the move go as seamlessly as possible, pack your belongings in advance and organize them in labeled boxes. When labeled, the movers will know which rooms to set boxes in in your new home.

Research

Don’t make the mistake of doing the minimum amount of research. Talk to different companies and get quotes for services from each. Check to see what is included with each quote-even the smallest details matter here, including the fine print. Always choose the quote that works best for your needs and your budget. Remember, the cheapest quote may not be the best or most reliable service either.

Beat the Heat

The summer months can be pretty toasty! Another bonus to booking in advance is that you can book your movers to arrive early in the morning and beat the heat. Getting your items picked up and into your new home in the early hours will make things a bit easier on both you and your moving crew.  Be sure to stay hydrated, and wear light clothing to avoid overheating.

Move on the least busy days

The beginning and end of the month are always the busiest for movers and weekends are even more chaotic. Choosing a moving day that is less busy will leave you feeling less rushed and you have more flexible time options for pickup and delivery. On top of that, booking during a slower time of the week can sometimes score you a better price too.

Take Care

Some items won’t do well in a hot moving truck and should be taken with you in your personal vehicle. If you must send delicate items in the moving truck, be sure to pack them appropriately. Some examples of things to consider moving yourself are instruments, CD’s or candles.

If your home is currently for sale or you’re moving this summer, now is the time to start looking for your moving company. We hope these 5 tips help to make your summer move a breeze.
